How to verify an exchange yourself

Authorisation attaches to a legal entity, not a brand. Check the ESMA register of authorised CASPs and the relevant national regulator, and match the exact entity name (for example Payward Europe Solutions for Kraken), because the interim register has carried data-entry errors. A firm still trading under a pre-existing national registration during its country's transitional window may not yet hold full MiCA authorisation. See Article 109 on the register and the transitional deadlines for what the window means.

What authorisation does and does not mean

A MiCA licence means the firm met conduct, custody, governance, and prudential requirements and can passport across the EU. It is not deposit insurance and not a guarantee against loss; client-asset protection comes from the Article 75 custody rules and the Article 67 prudential safeguard, not a state compensation scheme. For stablecoin availability, see whether USDT and other stablecoins are authorised.

Editorial. Not legal advice. Verify current status against the ESMA register and the relevant national competent authority.
